Creating Products

Seller Guide: Creating a Product on Roamerstore.com

Welcome to the seller's manual for adding new products to the Roamerstore.com multivendor marketplace!

The platform on this website allows for some deep functionality! You have the option to create simple products to get started, but the options for complex products and inventory management is also there.

Most of this guide will be specific to the Roamerstore.com market, but I will also provide links to the userguide for the main template interface. Do note that this generic guide will look a bit different and maybe show more options - but, I have chosen to keep functionality relatively simple to get off the ground faster (MVP!). The option to include more features in the future is definitely there! Let's go!

Follow these simple steps to successfully create and manage your product listings.

Please note the following:

  • At this time Shipping must be manually added. I recommend adding shipping cost as a separate product
  • Taxes will be auto calculated through the Stripe Payment Platform

Step 3: Add a New Product

From the Products page, select Add Product from the top menu bar.

This will open the New Product creation page with several tabs across the top, as pictured below. Let's start by filling out the information on the General Tab.

3a. General Tab: Main product information

Information

  • Create a product Name
  • Select a category using the dropdown. You will be able to see the hierarchy of each category in the dropdown, with the lighter font being the top-level category.
Note: If the preferred category for your product does not exist yet, select the closest category OR "Other" and send an email to support@roamerstore.com to request the category to be added.
  • Assign a price
  • Write a detailed description for your product.
    • In this section you may include additional information, such as your refund and shipping policy or if you offer local pick up.
  • Upload images, note the max image size of 1024 MB

Price / Inventory

  • CODE: This is a product code, similar to an SKU, that you assign to help you manage inventory. It is not required to be unique, but it is recommended. This is useful if you are importing multiple items at once
  • In stock—the number of products in the stock.
  • Track inventory—determines whether the number of products in stock will decrease after each purchase.
  • Minimum quantity to buy per product—the minimum number of items that a customer can buy at a time. This number will appear on the product page on the storefront, right after the product price.
  • Maximum quantity to buy per product—the maximum number of items that a customer can buy at a time. 0 means no limit.
  • Taxes: Leave this unchecked. Taxes will be calculated through the Stripe payment gateway

Extras

  • Downloadable - Check this box if your product is a downloadable item. You will be able to upload downloadable file by editing the product after it is created (Step 4). If you select this box, you will be shown more options:

    • Enable shipping for downloadable products: Shipping is not functional on the site, so please leave this unchecked
    • Time-unlimited download—if this checkbox is ticked, the product download period never expires (recommended)
  • Short description—a short product description; it appears on the product list on the storefront. If you leave this field blank, the short description will be automatically taken from the full product description (first 300 characters).
  • Search words—the list of words by which the product should be easily found by the built-in search.
  • Promo text—an additional block with information that appears on the top right side of the product page.
Note: Variables will be available after the product is created. See Step 4.

3b SEO Tab

  • SEO name—the value to which the standard URL will be changed. Learn more here.

Meta data

  • Page title—the content of the <title></title> container: the title of the product page on the storefront, which is displayed in the web browser when somebody is viewing the page. If you don’t specify a value manually, it will be generated automatically.
  • META description—the content of the description meta-tag: a brief description of the product.
  • META keywords—the content of the keywords meta-tag: a list of search keywords that appear on the product page.

3c. Quantity Discounts Tab:

This tab contains the list of wholesale prices for the product. Customers will see those discounts on the product page on the storefront. Prices apply depending on the number of items of this product in cart.

  • Quantity—the minimum number of product items to qualify for the product wholesale price.
  • Value—the value of the discount (per item).
  • Type—the type of the discount:
    • Absolute—the cost of 1 discounted item.
    • Percent—the percent discount off the base product item price.
  • User group—the user group which can take advantage of the wholesale price.
Note: If you set up a discount that applies for all user groups for purchasing 1 item, this will overwrite product price.

3d. Add-ons Tab

This tab contains product properties that depend on the active add-ons as activated by the Roamer site moderator. The current add-ons are active:

  • Facebook: The Facebook object type option allows you to choose the object type on Facebook to characterize the page content for Open Graph markup. Learn more
  • RMA:
    • Returnable—if you tick this checkbox, the product will be labeled as available for the return.
    • Return period—the time period (in days) during which the product can be returned. The period begins on the day of purchase.

If you chose to make an item returnable, you may add conditions for returns under

the product "Full Description".

Note that these terms are set by the seller and Roamerstore.com is not responsible for any shipping fees or lost income
  • Bestselling: This add on is managed by the Roamer moderator and enables bestselling items to be highlighted in the main Roamerstore.com page

3e. Tags Tab

This tab includes a list of tags associated with the product. Tags appear on the storefront in the Tags section.

  • Tags—the tags that have been added to the product. Once you start typing, CS-Cart will use autocomplete to suggest what existing tag you may be entering.

Click "Create" on the upper right corner to create your product. This will queue the product for review by the Roamer site administrator.

  • All products are reviewed to prevent abuse of the system, fake sellers, fake products, and mass-produced or misrepresented items.
  • If your product is downloadable, it will be reviewed for authenticity and to ensure it is a true and valuable digital offering.

Once approved, your product will be published to the marketplace. You will receive an email notification letting you know that your product has been approved.

If there are any issues, a representative from Roamerstore will contact you directly.

The product's status will change to Active, as shown below:
